DO YOU WISH TO BE HEALED?
On the day Jesus went to the Pool of Bethesda, there was a man who had been infirm for 38 years. His condition was terrible. When we probe further we understand that, firstly, he was sick for quite a long time. Not for one or two years, but for 38 long years, and therefore his organs were no longer viable.
Secondly, there was nothing this man could do; he was helpless. The people who had been caring for him earlier had now grown tired of him. Now, none volunteered to help him. There was no one to feed him on time. Thirdly, he lost hope. He had previously hoped for healing. Now he was in despair since 38 years have rolled by and thought, “Who will heal me? Is this how I should live till I die?”
At this point, one day, he was surprised to hear a compassionate question posed, “Do you want to be healed?” Startled, he looked up to see who it was. He saw Jesus Christ standing close to him. The compassionate eyes of Jesus were looking at him. He immediately conveyed his helpless state to Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “Arise, take up your bed and walk.” He was instantly healed, took up his bed and walked home. (John 5:9)
Dear brother, sister, you too may have been sick for a long time. You may be in deep despair wondering who might save you. Fear not! Jesus Christ who sought after this sick man has come in search of you as well. He loves you deeply, and tenderly cares for you because He is your Creator.
Are you troubled saying, “Doctors have abandoned me. Medications have failed me. I’m not sure whether I’ll survive.” Do not worry! Jesus, who instantly healed the sick man by merely speaking a word, will undoubtedly heal you as well. “Jesus Christ took up our infirmities and bore our diseases (on the cross).” (Matthew 8:17) Since Jesus Christ has carried away your infirmities and sicknesses on the cross, He is able to heal you too.
Jesus Christ is looking out for you. “Do you want to be healed?” Jesus asks. Accepting Jesus as a Healer in your soul is a crucial step to take before looking to Him for healing, especially for the forgiveness of your sins. Because Jesus exclaimed, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” (John 5:14), upon seeing the man who had been healed in the temple. It is evident that his sickness was due to his sin.
Dear brother, sister it is possible that your sin is the reason for your sickness too. So make room in your heart for Jesus, who carried away your sins. He never turns away any sinner who approaches him.
Believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood for your sins on the cross. “He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) “…the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses from all sin.”
(I John 1:7)
Open your heart’s door wide and say, “Jesus, forgive my sins.” He will enter your heart and forgive your sins. He will also heal your sickness. He will flood your heart with divine peace and joy. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him.” (Revelations 3:20)
Lord Jesus Christ who is knocking at the door of your heart is asking you, “Do you want to be healed?” Similar to what the sick man did, open your heart’s door and say, “Jesus, you have carried my sins on the cross, which caused my sickness. So pardon my sins and heal my sickness.” Jesus Christ will undoubtedly heal you.
“By his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
May Jesus Christ touch and heal you by His stripes.
